Insurance Law Lesson 86: Why Liability Insurance Is Imperative

The threat of suit is not only about liability. If you conduct yourself professionally, carefully, and skillfully you can avoid many situations that could lead to liability. But, that does not mean you won’t get sued. And getting sued means incurring attorney fees.

If you think you are immune to getting sued, consider that I once defended a lawyer who was sued for malpractice by a former client. The client had been facing 125 years in jail for some very serious charges and there was no sweet plea deal on the table. The jury verdict came down not-guilty on all counts. The got the best possible result… and then sued the lawyer anyway.

Anybody can get sued. And lawyers are not cheap. Liability insurance is imperative.
